>> Old traditions of Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang Province has many ethnic groups, who have lived together peacefully. Even though some lifestyles, traditions and customs of the Lao Loum, Lao Theung and Lao Soung ethnic groups are different, they together become cultural flowers with several colours in the national garden. The most famous festivals of the Lao Loum are Lao New year ( Water Festival ), boat racing festival, rocket festival and candle-light Procession festival. Bounpotpi is the New Year Festival of the Lao Theung, while BounKinchieng is the New Year Festival of the Lao Soung, but they join together for all festivals.

There are many other ceremonies and festivals incuding the daily alms giving ceremony where laypeople offer food to the monks as they walk through the town in the morning. People regularly visit the timple to observe religious rites and to medilate, enjoy a secluded spot or even play on the temple grounds. Luang Prabang has the most holy Prabang Buddha image, which is worshiped by Luang Prabang People as well as Lao people. The Government as well as Lao people constructed a building in front of the museum where the Prabang Buddha image is kept. Both domestic and foreign donors donated for its construction. Thanks to this, the construction of the front part of the buiding was completed and the art of building is beautiful and complements the museum.

People organise house-warming festivals at home, novice-becoming ceremonies and offering festivals, where there is a Procession around the town in order to help donors to give donations to a temple. Traditional festivals of Luang Prabang people have been passed down from generation to generation and become famous as the culfure of this world heritage site.
